Death or Life
A man crossed a bridge daily and often contemplated stopping mid-span to jump. One day as the urge was strong he had a thought which came in the form of a question:
If you are willing to take your life, are you willing to give it to Me?
As he reflected on the question he realized it could only have come from God.
He was right. God is the only source of life - both as the One who brought us into being and as the One who in Christ gives eternal life. To accept doesn't even require much conscious faith, just the courage to say "yes."
Reflect for a moment on Jesus' loving invitation -"Follow Me" (Matthew 4), "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." (Matthew 11)
Simply say "yes." Whether you do so with heart or mind, out loud or in a whisper or a thought doesn't matter. Just say "yes." You can say more, pray at any length, but start with "yes."
Then find another Christian and tell him or her what you've done. Ask him or her to show you how to know Jesus better. Consider also the best advice given someone else in a crisis.
