A.W. Tozer has written that ". . . more spiritual progress can be made in one short moment of speechless silence in the awesome Presence of God than in years of mere study," This World: Playground or Battleground? (Camp Hill, Pennsylvania: Christian Publications) 1989. p.42. There are times when the thing to do is to trust completely in God and let events take their course. This does not mean we should just be passive or apathetic. There are always useful things at hand for us to do. It does mean we should spare ourselves the agony of asking "why" about everything.
For anyone who has recently felt a little "down in the dumps" may I offer that short but exhilarating book, Philippians. Virtually every word of Philippians is encouraging. If you start at the beginning you will sense a growing excitement in Paul's words. In 4:4-6 he states:
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God (ESV).
Trust in the Lord and rejoice!
